Bed is one of those few places where we real women are prepared to sacrifice style for comfort. Or are we? To find out, we asked five gorgeous hard working women to bare all at bed time, and tell us what they put on for that most desirable of all sensual experiences. Yes you guessed it, sleep.
Caroline (pretty in pink)These pyjamas were given to me and so I treasure them, but they are not what I’d choose. I’m obsessed by finding the perfect PJs. Ones that are sexy and feminine and yet comfortable. They don’t exist. What you get is baggy boy shaped stuff. In my opinion Coco Chanel did women a big disservice by making us all aspire to look like men. You know, the I’m-wearing-my-boyfriends-clothes look. Great when are 14 and ‘all legs’. Not so great when you are 41 and ‘all woman’! If the doorbell rings I have a secret look good weapon, this sparkly tiara my sister gave me. It completely takes their mind off what I’m wearing below!
Letty (snoopy top)
Don’t be silly! These aren’t my real pyjamas! I usually wear shorts and a T shirt. But they are all in the wash at the moment.
Jessica (stripes) I love these pyjamas so much I would honestly wear them out in public during the day. Their finest feature is their softness. Being snug my pjs needs to feel comfortable against the skin. Usually cotton – or raw silk. A natural fabric that lets skin breathe. The bottom half is trousers that come straight down half way down the shin so they appear slightly flared. The waist is slightly low hanging on the hips so they start just below my stomach. I always like to wear a fitted top that holds me firmly. Almost like a the caress of another human. The feeling of my body pushing against the tight garment also gives me a feeling of strength. Like my muscles are bursting out. Only just containable. The cotton jersey makes them comfortable. I can do yoga in them. And I love stripes.
Cordelia (checked night shirt)
This nightshirt was given to me by my aunt when she moved out of her flat in London. The most remarkable thing about it is that it is 30 years old, I’ve worked out! A bit worn in places but really comfortable and I love it. The firm that made them don’t exist now. No repeat business I guess!
Dorothy (white frilly stuff)
When I was a girl I used to wear flannelette nighties, I suppose that dates me. But now I just wear this white frilly skirt. I don’t usually wear anything on top, unless I’m ill. I’ve got three of them. One is in use, one is in the laundry basket and one should be clean at all times. I like the feeling of being free and easy in bed. I don’t know why I wear anything at all really!
