How to Make Tiffin

Here is Scott Hyde showing us how to make a delicious version of the famous Tiffin. It’s a sumptous mixture of chocolate  biscuits and cherries with a hint of orange………………………….
Utensils
  • A  baking tin approximately 20 x 20 cm and 3 cm deep lined with foil or greaseproof paper.
  • Refrigerator (2 hours min)

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons of sultanas
  • 100ml orange juice
  • 125g butter
  • 1 tablespoon Golden Syrup
  • 350g digestive biscuits
  • 125g butter
  • 1 tbs powdered drinking chocolate
  • 100g  cherries
  • 1 tbs golden caster sugar
  • 200g milk chocolate

Method:

Marinate the sultanas in the orange juice for an hour or longer.

Break up the biscuits in a bowl.

Melt the butter, golden syrup, drinking chocolate and sugar in a pan and add the marinated raisins crumbled biscuits and cherries. Discard the orange juice (or drink!). Stir well to ensure the butter acts as ‘glue’ later on.

Pour the crumbled buttery mixture into the lined tin and compress firmly.

Melt the chocolate and pour on top.

Chill for two hours in the refrigerator then Enjoy!

With thanks to Scott  for bringing us this recipe and for making the delicious Tiffin!

Note: Defined literally as a snack, the word ‘Tiffin’ has also come to mean an afternoon snack  in Indian English as a word for the light meal that superseded the British practice of an afternoon tea.
