Stealing Sheep Live!
Stealing Sheep
The three-girl band from Liverpool stole the show in the up-and-coming Far Out tent this afternoon. Their music features just about every kind of genre you can imagine, from folk to funk but all synthesised together. Lead vocalist Lucy Mercer combines percussion and vocals, an unusual mixture, but does it with ease and style. Their smiles say it all and their songs are full of unexpected swerves and changes of rhythm and tempo. They have been variously described as mediaeval, post-punk, pagan, post rock. Just about every tag you can think of. Why? Because their music does not do that major key thing, and often swerves off into realms that don’t you don’t expect. Today they had a guest flautist Laura J Martin with them and to try and imagine how that works in a rock band is hard to describe, but her duet with the drums was a treat. My favourite number was Shut Eye, with it’s hypnotic drumming and gradually building pace. They are now signed with Heavenly records and released their first album Into The Diamond Sun three days ago. And I’m buying it.
